A little history lesson...

Mobile is pronounced "mo-beel".  It was named after a Native American tribe, the Maubilla Indians. It has a few nicknames including: the Port City, the City of Six Flags, the Azalea City, the Home of Mardi Gras and Mob-Town.

Established in 1702, the flags of six nations and republics have flown over the city since its founding: France, Spain, Great Britain, the Alabama Republic, the Confederate States of America and the United States. Anyone that visits Mobile will see the signs of European influence among the buildings and homes that line Government Street.
